Verification and KYC

What is KYC and why do I need it?+

KYC, know your customer, is how we confirm that every organization on the platform is a real, licensed business. It protects everyone: you know the party on the other side of a deal is legitimate, and they know the same about you. Verification is the entry condition for trading.

What documents do I need to get verified?+

Typically your company registration, the relevant fuel licence for what you do, proof of address and the details of an authorised representative. The onboarding flow walks you through exactly what to upload, step by step.

How long does verification take?+

Once your documents are submitted, our compliance team reviews them. You will see your status update on your dashboard, and we notify you by email when your organization is cleared to trade.

Escrow and settlement

How does escrow work?+

When a deal is agreed, the buyer's funds are placed into a neutral hold rather than sent straight to the seller. The seller can see the funds are confirmed, delivery goes ahead, and only once conditions are met are the funds released. It removes the who pays first standoff.

When are funds released to the seller?+

Funds are released after the order is paid into escrow and the delivery is confirmed. At that point the tax invoice is issued and the settlement completes. Every step is visible to both parties.

Is Damtata holding my money as a bank?+

No. Damtata facilitates settlement and holds funds in escrow as a neutral service. We are not a bank or a lender. Any financing in a deal is provided by a clearly identified partner, not by Damtata.

Membership and fees

Who can join the exchange?+

Licensed participants across the fuel chain: wholesalers, retailers, depot and storage operators, transporters, and government buyers. Every organization completes verification before trading.

How are fees charged?+

On marketplace deals we apply a transparent commission, shown before you commit. Gazetted and regulated pricing is passed through as-is. You always see the full breakdown of a deal before confirming it.

What are Damtata Points?+

Damtata Points are a loyalty balance you earn on completed trades. They unlock platform benefits like priority support and better commission tiers. They are not a token or currency, are non-transferable, and are never redeemable for cash or crypto.

Trading and safety

Does Damtata trade on my behalf?+

Never. Nothing is bought, sold, settled or moved without a person on your side reviewing it and clicking to confirm. The platform gives you tools and visibility; the decisions stay with you.

What happens if there is a dispute?+

Because every step is recorded and funds sit in escrow until conditions are met, disputes start from a clear, shared record rather than one party holding all the leverage. Our disputes process is set out in the legal section.
